This week in Science, we did a matching sheet about space. We also had reviews about space and the big one was that we had a test in Moodle about space. This test was our last science test of the year.
This week in Math, we had a test about geometry. There are congruent and similar shapes, and two and three dimensional shapes. Two dimensional shapes are flat like a piece of paper. Three dimensional shapes are 3-D. They have length, width, and height. We also learned about charts and bar graphs.
This week in Language Arts, we started writing our adventures. We read one together on Monday, made an organizer on Tuesday, and from Wednesday through Friday we worked on writing our adventure.
May 16-20, 2011 This week was out of this world. In Math we almost gave Mrs. Tomlin a heart attack with our NWEA scores! Everything that we have done in math was in our NWEA test like: lines of symmetry, solids, transformations, and telling one shape from another. What are lines of symmetry, solids, and transformations? Lines of symmetry are how you can split a shape in half and have the same design and same shape, but folded. A square has four lines of symmetry--both diagonals, up and down, and side to side. If you cannot fold it , it does not have a line of symmetry. Solids are a shape that is 3D. Transformations are flips, turns, and slides. This week in Science we learned about the solar system. We watched Bill Nye the Science Guy about the solar system. The planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. If you cannot remember them, this poem will help: My Very Eager Mother Just Served Us Noodles. This week in Language Arts, we finally finished our legends! Now we are on Adventures. We are just starting to read some adventures. Next week we are going to start writing our own adventure. This week we found out that our very nice Mrs. Tomlin is going to be a 5th grade teacher. Those of us who want to, get to go with her again next year. We also had "Books for Bikes". On Friday, we had a half off Paw Point Store. If you ask what Paw Points are, we get these when we do extra things when we are not told to like help the teacher, pick up garbage on the playground, and pick up garbage on the school bus. This week was the best time in our life!

This week was a chill!
In Science we learned about planets. We learned that Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. Then comes Venus and after that comes Earth. Then comes, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. There used to be Pluto but it is not considered a planet anymore. We also learned that on Mercury there are only 88 days in a year, but a day is 59 Earth days long. Venus takes 8 months to revolve around the Sun. We already know about Earth so let's move on. Jupiter takes 12 years to revolve around the Sun. Saturn takes 29.5 years to revolve around the Sun. Mars take 1.9 years to revolve around the Sun. Uranus takes 84 years to revolve around the Sun. Neptune takes 165 years to revolve around the Sun! We learned about Pluto too. Pluto takes 250 years to revolve around the Sun! We also learned about the inner planets. They are Earth, Mars, Venus, and Mercury. We will learn about the outer planets on Monday...Yeah!
In Math, we learned about polygons, median, mode, and range. Median is the middle number in a set of numbers. Mode is the most frequent number. Range is the difference between the largest number and the smallest number. We also learned about quadrilaterals and triangles. Quadrilaterals are four sided shapes. You know what triangles are. We did congruent and similar shapes, too. Congruent shapes are the same size and shape. Similar shapes are the same shape but not the same size.
This week in Language Arts, we finished our legend and made it better. On Thursday we partner edited our legends.
This week the author Jonathan Rand came! Did you know his real name is Christopher Knight? He was really funny. He taught us that reading is not a thing you do, it's a place you go. He also said books don't have covers, they have doors! He also told us a secret: all of his books are true!
Would you want Jonathan Rand to come to your school?

This week was like a legend.
This week in Language Arts, we started organizers for our legends. A legend is a story that tells how something came to be. We also read some legends such as How the Chipmunk Got Its Stripes, How Bear Got Its Feathers, How Buzzard Got Its Feathers, and The Legend of Birch Bark.
This week in Math we took a test to see what Success Time group we will be in. We also learned about averages. All you have to do is add up the numbers then divide the number you got when you added by the amount of numbers you added. Example: 20 + 19 + 35 + 43 + 72 = 189. Then you divide 189 by 5 which is equal to 37 R 4. We also learned about lines, line segments and rays. A line goes on forever in both directions. A line segment has a definite length and has two endpoints. A ray is a line that goes on forever in only one direction. Also we learned about angles. An angle is two rays that meet at one endpoint. An angle that is less than 90 degrees is called an acute angle. An angle that is greater than 90 degrees in called an obtuse angle. An angle that is 90 degrees is called a right angle.
This week in Science we learned about earth's movements. Earth spins on an axis. It takes 365 days or a year for earth to do one rotation around the sun. The seasons change by the direct sunlight the sun gives off.
This week we had a Student of the Month Assembly. Joey was the Writer of the Month and Kylie was the Student of the Month.
This week we celebrated Kylie's birthday. She brought in cupcakes in ice cream cones.
This week was a test of life!
